In its determination to fully explore oil in the Lake Chad Basin area of Borno state, the Federal Government has earmarked the sum of $232 for the commencement of the Phase I scheduled to start in mid- November this year.
This was disclosed by the General Manager of Nigerian National Petroleum Investment Services (NAPIMS) , Mr. Morrison Fibbi when he led members of his delegation on a courtesy call to Governor Ali Modu Sheriff at the Government House Maiduguri, the state capital.
Mr. Fibbi stated that the aim of starting the project for the phase I is to embark on the seismic Data Acquisition, and come out with a concept of the Data, interpret and capture it, in order to determine the rate of Hydro- carbon (oil/gas) in the Chad Basin so that proper exploration will take place without any hindrance.
He noted that the issue of oil exploration in the Northern part of the Country, especially Borno, has been in existence for decades without positive response, but with the assistance of the Federal Government in conjuction with a Chinese Company known as the Integrated Data Services Limited, a subsidiary of the NNPC which has the state of the art equipment in oil exploration will soon come to reality, stressing that if Chad Republic can have oil on their part of the lake, why not Borno? and that he is optimistic that there are a lot of unquantifiable crude oil in the Chad Basin that will enhance the country.
The General Manager further noted that with this development, it would create a lot of employment opportunities to the jobless, as the project would soon engaged the services of electricians, engineers, carpenters and general labour that are to be employed for effective performance.
In his remarks, Governor Ali Sheriff who was represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Adamu Shettima Dibal stated that Borno state Government and all the 19 Northern states Governors have agreed among themselves to do everything possible in assisting the NNPC to commence Oil exploration in the lake Chad Basin, as doing so would not only bring employment opportunities, but also compliment that of the Niger- Delta Region.
Dibal also assured the Members of the delegation that government is doing everything possible to ensure that there is adequate security in the lake Chad Basin , as most people of the benefiting communities have been fully sensitized on the economic importance which would be derived from the gigantic projects.

He further assured the members of the delegation that the state government will soon embark on the construction of the road leading to the site of the project for easy transportation of equipments and manpower, adding that the people of the state are proud of Borno to become one of the oil producing states in the country.
